Companies in the hospitality trade, such as those
that offer instant coffee machines,
could benefit from encouraging consumers to go green.
According to Unilever, the parent company of brands including PG
Tips, people are increasingly becoming unwilling to buy products
from brands that do not act responsibly, the Guardian
reports.
"Consumers recognise they can drop a company instantly," said
Paul Polman, chief executive of the firm.
"Companies should use this knowledge to act as a force for
good."
However, Mr Polman accepted that members of the public may not
be willing to buy products solely because they claim they are
green.
For instance, he said items such as sustainable tea must be just
as good as the regular variety and priced at a comparable
level.
This comes after Green Business UK stated that businesses could
also encourage workers to help the environment, possibly by getting
them to use fewer lights or to avoid leaving appliances on
standby.
