Businesses might want to invest in an office
coffee machine after some of the drink's benefits were flagged up
by a scientist.
According to Professor Merlin Thomas of the
Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute, some of the ingredients
that make up coffee can influence the brain, the Conversation
reports.
Specifically, he noted that caffeine stops adenosine receptors from
"dulling brain activity", which means it can leave a person feeling
stimulated.
"This is why coffee is so invigorating on those dreary mornings
when we'd rather be in bed," Professor Thomas commented.
As a result, a coffee machine could be a
great investment for businesses who want to ensure they have an
alert and productive workforce.
Professor Thomas added that coffee contains a
"deliciously complex mixture" of compounds, some of which are only
generated when the beans are fermented, roasted and brewed.
This comes after the British Coffee
Association suggested that consuming the hot beverage in moderation
could have a number of health benefits.
