Restaurants and
cafes might want to encourage customers to use their commercial coffee
machine, after an expert said the hot drink can be good for
you.
According to dietician Leslie Beck, writing in the Globe and
Mail, coffee contains antioxidants, chromium and magnesium, which
can all help to tackle diabetes.
Indeed, she said studies have proved that people who drink
between four and six cups of coffee each day are less likely to
develop type 2 diabetes than those who drink two at most.
Ms Beck acknowledged that coffee might not suit everybody, such
as pregnant women or those with reflux disease or heartburn.
However, she stated that in general, the hot drink offers more
potential benefits to health than dangers.
The dietician added that coffee can also stave off conditions
such as breast cancer, asthma, heart disease and degenerative
conditions including Parkinson's disease.
Ms Beck was speaking after the
British Coffee Association said drinking four to five cups per day
should induce no ill-effects.
