Café bars that offer coffee machine facilities
could benefit from more clarity on how proposed recommendations to
improve the UK's high streets could be carried out.
Retail expert Mary Portas recently published her
government-commissioned review on what steps need to be taken to
get more people using town centre businesses.
However, consultancy group DPP believes firm details on how her
proposals could be implemented need to be made available, Caffe
Culture reports.
For instance, it noted that while café bars would be likely to
benefit from a removal of "unnecessary regulations", specific
measures still have to be announced.
Chris Green, spokesman for DPP, commented: "The Portas Review
provides a constructive vision for high streets, but is however
somewhat lacking in understanding of some of the detailed
issues."
However, he welcomed the idea that the role of high streets
should extend beyond being a retail centre.
Indeed, prime minister David Cameron responded to the review
by saying he wants high streets to be placed at the "very heart" of
every community.
