Cafes where customers can use commercial coffee
machines have been advised to step up their focus on the
environment.
According to IBISWorld, consumers are becoming increasingly
concerned about green issues, such as climate change and carbon
emissions, Franchising reports.
Karen Dobie, spokeswoman for the group, noted that people are
also getting more worried about the use of pesticides in food and
drink products.
As a result, she believes responding positively to these issues
could open up a number of business opportunities for coffee
shops.
"Operators will benefit from differentiating their products by
using organic ingredients, reducing their carbon footprint and
promoting ethical business practices," Ms Dobie
commented.
She added that some people might be prepared to pay extra for a
cup of coffee if the ingredients have been sourced in an ethical
way.
This comes shortly after Enworks, an environmental business
support consultancy, suggested that going green could be a "recipe
for commercial success".
