Café bars that offer commercial coffee
machines are widely regarded as the preserve of the young
professional who is either on the go all the time or seeking a
venue for an informal meeting.
But it's true to say that coffee shops are just as popular with
people who want to go out socially. People's tastes have changed a
lot in the last few years, so a pub or a wine bar is no longer the
instant first choice for anybody who is meeting up with
friends.
Some find coffee shops a far more relaxed and peaceful venue
than licensed premises, while the lack of alcohol can make for
quite a different environment.
Of course, some will argue that if people want a cup of coffee,
why do they not just make one at home?
But how easy is it to make a constant supply of drinks, such as
cappuccinos, lattes and espressos, for your friends and relax at
the same time?
A commercial coffee machine can roll them out again and again,
whereas making your favourite variety at home can be time-consuming
and (for some) might deliver questionable results.
Sometimes, people just want a bit of convenience, to get their
perfect cup of coffee with no effort at all and to be waited
on.
If people applied the logic that it is easier to have coffee at
home elsewhere, it could be taken to ridiculous extremes. No-one
would ever go to a restaurant or a takeaway would they?
Going out of the house and spending time in pleasant, relaxing
and different surroundings is a treat, and getting looked after by
staff makes it even more of a joyful experience. And it means the
onus isn't on any one person in the group to look after everyone
else, as it would be if they got together at somebody's house.
