Many people in the UK are getting back to normal
now that Christmas is over and the new year bank holiday
celebrations have passed. But the festive season had helped to take
the country's mind off the cold winter weather, which means the
reality of the stark and freezing conditions is now kicking in.
The Workers often rely on a brew from a commercial coffee
machine at the best of times to get them on top form for a busy
day ahead. But with people still in a Christmas mindset, it could
be more important than ever today as they return to their daily
business.
After all, many studies have suggested that a cup of coffee can
help to stave off the onset of depression – a mental health
condition often associated with this time of year.
Moodscope.com believes today in particular (January 3rd) could
see the number of people feeling down in the dumps surge. Speaking
to the Daily Express, founder of the website Jon Cousins described
it as one of the "gloomiest" days of the year.
However, he argued that the impact of the first working day
after the festive season could be reduced if people make sure they
are ready for it.
"See it like a weather forecast," Mr Cousins commented.
"If you knew it was going to be cold and wet, you'd take a coat
and umbrella when you went out.
Cafe bars could be very well placed to lift the public mood
throughout the week, as the products from commercial coffee
machines are both warming at this time of year and said to help
improve a person's state of mind.
According to the Seasonal Affective Disorder Association, about
seven per cent of people in the UK get the winter blues, with some
experiencing it from September through to April.
