Companies that have purchased a sustainable coffee
machine as part of an effort to reduce their environmental impact
might also need to pay attention to the type of cups they use.
According to Poyry Management Consulting, many
disposable coffee cups are made from cardboard and polyethylene,
the Guardian reports.
David Powlson, principal of the group and a
paper recycling specialist, said this is "great" for keeping the
hot beverage warm and making sure the container does not go
soggy.
However, he warned that this type of coffee
cup can be difficult to recycle.
Indeed, Mr Powlson said these containers are
"not so great when you come to realise that most UK paper mills are
unable to process paper mixed with other materials".
As a result, businesses might want to look for different options in
order to ensure their coffee machine does not compromise their
green credentials.
The comments coincide with the launch of a new government
initiative designed to get more small to medium-sized enterprises
recycling waste.
