Anyone who wants a hot drink when they are out and
about is spoiled for choice these days. Just about every high
street and city centre boasts outlets with commercial coffee
machines, so people can get their drink of choice conveniently
and affordably.
Coffee shops in particular try to appeal to all tastes these
days, from people getting a power coffee to set up them up for a
day at work to friends who want to meet up over a quiet brew. But
with such a broad focus, can they really know why people choose to
go to certain establishments?
A recent study by Allegra Strategies tried to lift the lid on
this issue and gauge what motivates people to go to certain places.
Its survey of syrup users found that 36 per cent purchase coffee
from anywhere that is conveniently located near where they are
shopping, compared with 44 per cent of people who don't have syrup
with their order.
Figures also showed that 19 per cent of those who ask for syrups
at coffee shops prefer to visit establishments that are near where
they work, along with 15 per cent of customers who do not have
syrup.
The outlet's proximity to a person's home was also found to be a
deciding factor for both groups. However, opinions between syrup
and non-syrup users differed when it came to how close a coffee
shop is to their school or college.
Five per cent of the former group flagged this up as important,
whereas just two per cent of the latter said the same. This is a
further indicator that syrup could be a more popular option with
younger coffee drinkers.
Allegra Strategies added that many other people don't
necessarily buy a brew close to where they live, work or have other
matters of importance - some simply have a coffee while on route to
these destinations.
It goes to show that just about anywhere can be a good
place to provide a commercial coffee machine, as somebody somewhere
always wants a hot drink.
