Have you ever looked properly at your drink for a
long time after you have used a commercial coffee
machine? Perhaps not, but one man who did found it gave him the
inspiration to produce some remarkable works of art.
Mark Mawson, a London-based photographer, has used a special
technique to develop his Aqueous Fluoreau series - which showcase
exotic and strange swirling shapes.
The images were designed to "evoke a feeling of being underwater
or in alien environments". Indeed, the strange colours and exotic
shapes certainly seem otherworldly.
While he has been tight-lipped over exactly what method he uses
to achieve the photos, Mr Mawson has disclosed that he got the idea
by looking with intent at a cup of coffee and watching the swirls
that are produced by the milk.
So next time you are out for a cup of coffee, you don't
necessarily have to gulp it all down as quickly as possible - it
could be the muse for a masterpiece.
Mawson has achieved a number of accolades over the years, such
as platinum and gold awards at last year's Damoba Creative and a
silver ranking at the 2010 International Aperture Awards.
