The ESE Pod (Easy
Serving Espresso Pod) is a system of brewing coffee using special
pre-packed, foil-wrapped ‘pods’ or capsules.
Each pod contains several grams of freshly roasted coffee
compressed into a food-safe filter capsule. A specially designed
machine is used to dispense the finished brewed drink. The actual
mechanism used to produce the drink varies depending on the system
used.
The coffee pod is opened and placed in a ‘slot’ in the machine.
This slot is situated where one would normally put the loose
grounds in an espresso machine. The origination of this system is
accredited to the Ily corporation in Italy as a marketing effort to
sell convenience in home espresso preparation.

Each drink is brewed direct from the pack to the cup to give a
